Individual Occupational Requirements for the Outdoor Recreation Planning Series (0023):
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- outdoor recreation planning or a related field such as: sociology, forestry, landscape architecture, economics, biological science, park administration, earth science, natural resource management and conservation, civil engineering, urban planning, or recreation. Applicants who qualify on the basis of graduate work in related disciplines must have one or more courses in outdoor recreation.

Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated the ability to plan and coordinate the use of land, water, and related resources for recreation and conservation purposes.
In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement above, applicants must also meet the following qualification requirement in order to be considered for this position. Please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.
For GS-12: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: (1) experience as an outdoor recreation planner planning and monitoring a recreation program; (2) conducting analysis and evaluation of outdoor recreation interest/needs; (3) applying policies, procedures, and regulations; (4) implementing resource management plans, assisting in the coordination of local monitoring and environmental review regarding public lands; (5) monitoring program operations and assisting or providing input to budgetary requests.
For GS-13: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity. Specialized experience for this position includes but is not limited to: (1) experience as an outdoor recreation planner developing guidelines, standards, and procedures for a recreation program; (2) evaluating outdoor recreation interest/needs in order to make plan recommendations; (3) applying policies, procedures, and regulations; (4) implementing resource management plans, coordinating local monitoring and environmental review regarding public lands; (5) monitoring program operations and preparing budgetary directives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
