Duties

  • You will assist journeymen by gathering necessary tools, materials, and supplies.
  • You will assist in applying paint with a roller, brush, or spray equipment.
  • You will prepare surfaces for paint by scraping, sanding, and filling.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current respirator certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current scaffolding competent person certification.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the Painter Helper position without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: (1) Following specific instructions and common work procedures and practices of the trade; (2) Planning and organizing work; AND (3) Using tools and materials of the trade such as brushes, rollers, sprays, and different types of paint.

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

This position may require ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/ or Construction equipment, upon notification.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The work requires considerable standing, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching and
working in cramped, awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries, push and pull buckets of paint weighting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. Frequently climbs ladders, stands and balances body on scaffolding and reches and stretches while painting. Works overhead in awkward positions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works both indoors and outdoors. Often works in cramped quarters and does spray
painting in confined interior areas. Frequently is subject to poor lighting and ventilating conditions, dust, dirt, fumes and noise and to discomfort from paint dropping on hands, face and clothing. Works from scaffolding, ladders, and on roofs.
