Duties

  • You will prepare surfaces to be painted by sanding, filling holes and cracks with putty, cleaning, scraping old paint, etc.
  • You will assemble and erect scaffolding and staging.
  • You will apply rubbing compounds and wax.
  • You will perform routine painting on building exteriors and interiors, streets and curbs, and tall structures of various types.
  • You will clean and maintain brushes and tools used in painting.
  • You will keep working areas clean.
  • You will ensure that articles not to be painted are removed or covered.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. A periodic health examination is required.
  • You will be required to lift between 35 and 80 lbs.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. paint fumes and lead poisoning).

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform routine tasks of the painting trade without more than ordinary supervision, including preparation of surfaces via sanding/cleaning/puttying; assembling scaffolding and staging; applying smooth, even coats of paint via brushes, spray guns, and rollers; working from scaffolding/staging at various heights; and/or cleaning brushes, tools, and work areas.
