Summary

You will serve as a Physical Science Technician (Instruction) in the Radiological Control Office of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

The location for this position is Garden Island, Australia. Employee's initial pay and compensation will be based upon their current duty station and/or residence as determined by the employing activity. ***See Additional Information section below for details***

Duties

  • You will serve as the Radiological Instructor for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Australia Maintenance Support.
  • You will be responsible for administrative control, formulation, coordination, and conduct of theoretical and practical abilities training for radiological control technicians.
  • You will plan, develop, coordinate, facilitate, progress, and evaluate all radiological training courses to provide students knowledge and experience of a theoretical and applied nature on matters of health physics and applied radiological controls.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining radiological knowledge at the highest level by keeping aware of developments in the field and changes in regulations and requirements in order to ensure appropriate adjustments are made to training areas.
  • You will conduct worksite surveillances to monitor effectiveness of training and adherence to standards.
  • You will serve as radiological control technical advisor and point of contact for ships and other departments to provide knowledge of a technical nature on applied radiological controls.
  • You will coordinate, administer, and evaluate small scale radiological drills to test interface between the ship, project, and radiological control personnel in responding to radiological problems.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying radiological controls and reactor principles, conducting radiological surveys, and detecting and measuring radioactivity, AND Identifying standards and practices of radiation protection and non-compliance with established guidelines, AND Implementing instructional courses for professional and technical level application AND conducting worksite surveillances to monitor the effectiveness of training and adherence to standards.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
