You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) PLUMBER ~ Have the ability to perform common pluming work reading and understanding plans, blueprints, etc. to layout and perform the work to be completed. Have experience assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing piping systems, fixtures, and other equipment used to distribute, supply, or dispose of water or wastewater in structures, buildings and/or site lay outs. Have the ability to tap main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope, and determining and installing valves, traps, and unions to ensure proper operation of a variety of systems and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT; Stoops, stretches, bends, kneels for long periods of time and works in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions. Equipment worked on is large and must be moved in and out of specific locations. Frequently sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds and less frequently, items that weigh over 50 pounds. Weight handling equipment is available when handling large units, up to 6000 lb. Ladders, scaffolds and platforms may be used when working on large systems or roofs. Must be able to distinguish basic or shades of colors to prevent risk of electrical shock when wiring equipment.
- WORKING CONDITIONS; Work is performed inside and outside under all weather conditions. Exposed to possibility of broken bones from falls from ladders or scaffolds. Requires wearing of protective safety equipment
(respirators, shoes, glasses, ear protection). Possibility of burns and/or electrocution when working on electrical equipment (24 to 460 volts). May be called upon to perform asbestos abatement, encapsulation and repair.
