This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Refer to prints (building and utility) for location of lines when difficult stoppages or leaks occur.
  • Operate a 1/2 to 3/4 ton truck to and from the work site.
  • Clean obstructions in drainpipes and sewer lines, assemble pipe sections and fittings, install and repair valves, install clean outs on sewer lines.
  • You will perform repair and limited fabrication of plumbing systems in commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Repair and replace defective water, sewer, air and chilled water lines, above and below ground.
  • Inspect and test piping, fittings and fixtures for effective parts, disassemble and repair damaged section or fabricate replacement.

Qualifications

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) PLUMBER (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. Repairing, and performing maintenance of plumbing systems and clearing drain line blockages in commercial and industrial buildings and assembling pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment; I can determine utility systems such as water and gas systems and read blueprints (building and utility) for location of lines, hot water circulation pumps and sump pumps. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Works from ladders, in cramped areas, and in hard-to-reach places. Incumbent required to stand, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Light physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions: Is exposed to extreme temperatures while working inside and outside during all types of weather. Is exposed to possibility of burns from hot water pipes, scrapes, severe bruises and infections. Work involves exposure to noise levels above 85dB(A) but below 110dB(A), which are reduced by use of hearing protective devices. Is exposed to asbestos dust when repairing hot water lines in Fort Campbell facilities covered with asbestos or water lines, which are in close proximity to steam lines covered with asbestos. Masks and protective clothing are worn to reduce the risk of illness. Sheet metal: There is danger from cuts, falls, burns, and injuries from using ladders and using hand and power tools. Electrical: Subject to contact with dirt, dust and grease, shocks and burns from high voltage up to and including 480v, three phase, and cuts and bruises. Motor Vehicle Operation: Operates vehicle in all types of weather. Exposed to driving hazards and injuries when operating a Motor vehicle. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of driving accidents.
