In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience:
For the GS-06 Level: One year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: enforcing a body of laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involving the responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property (including government, contractor or private property); and performing or assisting in criminal investigative duties such as accident investigations or security breach investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
For the GS-07 Level:
One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Prevention, detection and/or investigation of crimes; (2) Protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; and (3) Maintaining order and/or protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal service (GS-06).
In addition to the qualification above, to qualify for/progress to the GS-7 level you will need the following certifications: Successful completion of the US Army Civilian Police Academy and Field Officer Training Program.
