Duties
This position is located in an Air National Guard Wing, Mission Support Group, Security Forces Squadron. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct formal combat arms training and maintenance activities for the Security Forces Squadron and tenant personnel. Control and operate firing ranges; inspect, repair, and maintain ground weapons. To enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation. To oversee the work activities of Drill Status Guardsmen (DSG) assigned to the Security Forces Combat Arms function.

- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Employee must successfully complete the USAF Combat Arms Technical Training Course or equivalent before allowed to instruct on weapons.
- The employee is required to properly carry, maintain, load, unload and fire various weapons. The employee will have resource protection (weapons and ammunition) responsibilities that could include the use of deadly force.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
- Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
- For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Must have one year specialized experience at the next lower grade that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

Medical Requirements:
1. To qualify for this series, a current physical and a cleared drug test are mandatory.
2. Normal color vision and normal depth perception are required, as defined by current Air Force Medical Examinations and Standards Instructions
3. Distance visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.
4. No speech disorder or noticeable communication deficiency as defined in AFI 48-123.
5. No diagnosed fear of acrophobia (fear of heights) or confined spaces.
6. To qualify for this series, must confirm there is no history of emotional instability, personality disorder, or other unresolved mental health problems.
7. No record of sleep disorders to include, but not limited to, sleep apneas, insomnias, hyper-somnias, narcolepsy, or restless leg syndrome.
8. No current diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or Perceptual/Learning Disorder(s); and, prescribed medication(s) to treat these disorders in the last 12 months.
9. No history of mood disorders including bipolar disorder, major depression, dysthymia, or depression not otherwise specified.
10. No recorded evidence of personality disorder, sustained or untreatable emotional instability to include depression, or suicidal behavior to include attempts, gestures, ideations, threats, or history of self-mutilation.
11. Individuals who had their spleens removed are not eligible for assignment to the military working dog program or any canine functions.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employee must successfully complete annual/recurring requirements specified for the position. Courses include: Law of Armed Conflict, Explosive Safety, Professional and Unprofessional relationships, Suicide Awareness, and other programs as directed by the Security Forces Commander.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
ADDITIONAL SELECTIVE FACTORS:
1. Current U.S. citizenship, naturalized citizen or permanent resident.
2. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with selective service.
3. Must possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles (GMV) in accordance with AFI 24-301, Vehicle Operations.
4. Never convicted of domestic violence IAW the Lautenberg Amendment.
5. No history of excessive alcohol use or arrested in the past two years for two or more alcohol related incidents regardless of disposition, except when proven not guilty.
6. No more than one active wage garnishment for delinquency.
7. No more than two delinquent charge off/collection (>= 30 days) payments within last two years.
8. Must not have used, distributed, or manufactured illicit narcotics or been arrested for any narcotics use, distribution or manufacturing.
9. Have not sniffed or used a substance to obtain an altered consciousness state from aerosol spray, lighter fluid, petro chemical, adhesives, Freon, or any other chemical for a purpose not intended for use.
10. Qualified to bear firearms according to AFI 31-117, "Arming and Use of Force by Air Force Personnel".
11. No acts of larceny, wrongful appropriation, robbery, burglary, housebreaking, misconduct in combat defined in UCMJ Articles 99-106, or any act that harmed or had the potential to harm the physical safety or well-being of animals to include Military Working Dogs.
12. Never convicted by a civilian court of a Category One, Two, or Three offense, nor exceeded the accepted number of Category Four offenses. The Category Three and Four traffic offenses alone are not disqualifying. Note: Categories of offenses are described and listed in AFI 36-2002, "Regular Air Force and Special Category Accessions, Uniform Guide List of Typical Offenses".
13. No documented record of gang affiliation.
14. No fear of working around nuclear weapons or nuclear components.
15. Position requires routine access to Secret material; and, a current National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit (NACLC) is required.
16. Must maintain an Air Force Network License.
