Duties

This position serves as the U.S. Coast Guard Yard's Port Operations Coordinator, applying a very high level of expertise to day-to-day operations on the waterfront and to the coordination of the many various interrelated services required to maintain the efficiency of industrial operations.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Obtaining a Pilot endorsement for the area between the Patapsco River and Curtis Bay in the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Developing a complete understanding of the characteristics and limitations of the USCG Yard's wharfs, piers, shiplift, and barges.
  • Completing 12 successful vessel movements at the Yard using contracted tugs; Patrol Boat, and ATON and Medium Endurance cutters; Dead ship movements and drydocking under observation.
  • Describing security and maintenance of the decommissioned fleet and be prepared to assume these responsibilities.
  • Managing and monitor vessel berth assignments.
  • Qualifying as DHS Contracting Officer Representative II and managing contracts assigned to the Pilot.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the federal sector. The following examples of professional maritime experience are desirable: The use and skill in applying nautical charts, tide and current tables; knowledge of a variety of classes of ships and application navigation rules and regulations.

Recruitment Incentive
