Glazing
The painter replaces and glazes wood, and steel frame windows. The incumbent replaces glass In metal and wooden doors. This requires removing or replacing wood moldings. The painter is required to measure, cut, and set glass. They are responsible for replacing thermopane glass in double hung windows. transom windows and awning type. requiring metal window stops and dismantling aluminum window frames. Surface Preparations & Techniques.
The painter uses plaster pans, spackling compound and drywall cement for filling cracks and leveling dents, holes and scaling paint areas. These materials are used on a daily basis in preparation of painting ceilings and wall areas. The painter is responsible for touchups and complete graining Jobs for these doors. When performing the required work of this position, the painter removes the loose and/or blistered paints and finishes from exterior surfaces by using chemical slippers, burning, sanding, chipping, wire brushing, chiseling, scraping, sweeping and dusting; applies primer coat, first coat and a second coat of finish to areas such as gutters, downspouts, soffets, other roof trim, doors, railings, fencing, terra-cotta trim, stairwells, fire escapes, fuel tanks, fire hydrants, picnic benches, picnic tables, trash huts, trash cans, swings, signs, windows, etc.: stripes roadways and parking lots to meet prescribed dimensions and layouts.
Interior painting and decorating consists of sanding, scraping, chiseling, chipping, wire brushing, burning, sweeping, dusting, cleaning, rolling, spraying, etc. Includes such areas as walls, floors, ceilings, trims, doors, windows, stairs, stairwells, elevators, hallways: electrical, plumbing and heating service rooms: over-head, vertical and horizontal hot water and cold water piping, low, medium and high pressure steamlines: gas piping, sprinkler piping and electrical conduit: metal and wood office furniture and equipment, trucksters, food carts, wall-graphics, and signs, etc.
The painter relates to other trade workers in Engineering when doing joint in-house repairs. when working in conjunction with outside contractors and when working with other services to complete special projects and inter-relates with other Medical Center personnel such as nurses, nursing aides, secretaries, patients, etc. this is done to coordinate timely work efforts and promote efficiency by checking when area is accessible. Work is quiet often done while patients, staff or other personnel are working in or around areas to be painted.
The painter utilizes cutting-in procedures; sands with air and/or electric vibrator, belt, floor edging and rotary sanders, mixes tints, tone. Is capable of adding additives to paint, varnish, shellacs, etc to match. Also, applies coatings so as to meet texture, decorative and level requirements, constructs, remodels and repairs signs. The painter applies graphic arts techniques to produce signs, posters and displays for interior/exterior use. Incumbent letters small characters freehand. Designs layout and decorates signs and executes freehand and mechanical lettering. Embellishes signs or displays on doors with insignia, drawings, shading or gilding as required and for reflective signs, applies pressure or heat-sensitive reflective sheeting and attaches ready-made door hand-out letters. Makes stencils, templates or paper patterns as necessary to reproduce designs or shapes.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note:

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, high lifts and platforms, and where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions is required. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally handles materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds and over. Moves furniture in areas to be painted to avoid damages.
