The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework (Situational/Ad-hoc) with supervisor approval.

Physical Demands: Incumbent must be in good physical condition. Incumbent must be able to work extended periods of time outside in all weather conditions of this area. Must be able to walk over rough, steep terrain, carrying heavy loads. Physically demanding duties including fighting wildfires, search and rescue operations on land and in or around water, and the ability to physically control people who may be violent or threatening. Duties require manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that incumbents may perform the duties required. Sufficiently good vision in both eyes, with or without glasses is required to perform the duties needed. Near vision, corrected with glasses, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten character. Physical fitness requirements must be met prior to and on a continuing basis during employment. Mandatory physical fitness and medical standards apply to the position. There is a high-stress component to some of the incumbent's work assignment.
Working Conditions: While some work may be performed in an office setting, other work is performed outdoors in all kinds of weather and climatic conditions. The work is performed at various hours of the day and night and for prolonged periods during an emergency situation. The Ranger is frequently exposed to high-risk and potentially dangerous situations in law enforcement and emergency situations requiring the use of a wide range of personal protective gear (some of which may be uncomfortable, hot, or inconvenient to wear), adherence to specific safety procedures, and other precautions is required. Long period of surveillance work may be required in cramped, or unpleasant location and under unpleasant conditions. Shift work is often required. Emergency law enforcement operations will require entry into hazardous environments, exposure to dangerous persons, animals, substances, and potential exposure to infectious diseases.
