Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel in the Federal Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Ensure animals are properly loaded and secured to be transported safely.
  • Decontaminate and neutralize restricted-use chemicals following Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines.
  • Recognize conditions conducive to pest infestation and be able to detect concealed infestations.
  • Determine area and scope of infestation, identifies type of pest and environment.
  • Conduct integrated pest management surveys and inspections.
  • Traps and removes feral and other wild animals as recommended or required.
  • Carries chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Completes pest control assignments independently, reviews results and decides if other procedures are necessary.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a current valid state driver’s license and an installation/DoD operator’s permit required for type of vehicle being operated.
  • Drive a utility truck or similar vehicle to and from the work site in order to transport self, supplies and other employees.
  • Must have either a state or Federal certification in accordance with AR 200-5 and DoD Pest Management Plan that includes DoD 4150.7, Pest Management Program.
  • Remain certified and must take the 40 hour refresher training and pass the certification test every three years.
  • Required to wear a respirator and must remain physically able to work wearing a respirator for extended periods of time up to 4 hours.
  • Must undergo and pass a physical exam.
  • Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.
  • Drug testing position, handling of Hazardous Materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pest Controller (Motor Vehicle Operator) I have the ability to perform common duties to determine courses of action for infestations to include preventive measures to protect facilities and real property, set various types of traps, and can operate common power tools. I have applied pesticides for vertebrate and pest control working closely with a Senior Pest Controller. ~ without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: The work requires moderate to heavy physical effort such as lifting and carrying items often weighing 50 pounds or more with assistant. May carry chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods. Moves furniture and equipment and operates high impact pneumatic hammers as well is various carpentry and masonry tools. The job requires working in a wide variety of locations, frequently in cramped and uncomfortable positions (for example, accessing attics with 2x4 beams with limited space to physically move easily). Must be able to climb and work off a 40-foot ladder and also out of an aerial platform. Requires stooping, bending, crawling, and climbing.
  • Working Conditions: The work is accomplished both inside and outside. When working outside, pest control workers are often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Outside work may be done under hot and dusty conditions for extended periods. Inside work is often accomplished in structural areas with minimum ventilation or limited access. The protective equipment designed to nullify the risk of exposure to toxic dust and sprays, which might damage their health. Damage of health may occur if appropriate safety procedures are not followed. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators (for extended periods of time of up to 4 hours), goggles, or facemasks for extended periods of time. They may be exposed to poisonous insects and plants and to wild animals. Protective devices such as but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hardhat and safety shoes is required. Steel toe shoes, hard hats and safety glasses, are required at all times. Coveralls with long sleeves or trousers with a long sleeve shirt must be worn at all times.

Education
