Summary

This position is located in the Office of Pharmaceutical Research Management (OPRM), Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT), Office of the Director (OD), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Duties

If selected for Pharmacist (Clinical) position, your duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Works with study teams (DAIT staff, principal investigators (PIs), clinical staff, and other researchers) to determine the appropriate strength and dosages of study product to be used in human clinical trials.
  • Reviews monitoring reports and works with sites and monitors to develop action plan(s) as part of performing quality assurance activities regarding all clinical site pharmacies to ensure compliance with national and international regulations and to ensure patient safety.
  • Provides oversight of DAIT clinical site pharmacies and reviews Pharmacy Establishment Plans, including establishment of standards and approval of pharmacy plans for new pharmacies or clinic-based pharmacies.
  • Provides professional and technical assistance to clinical site pharmacists, study coordinators, monitors, and investigators at both domestic and international sites, including providing information on protocols, study product preparation, and dispensing information.
  • Serves as a back-up point of contact correspond with the Pharmaceutical companies and the government-contracted drug distributor to facilitate the procurement of study products for use in DAIT- supported clinical trials.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Pharmacist (Clinical) GS-6601-13, you must meet the following qualification requirements:

Education Requirement
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; AND

Licensure Requirement
An active, current license as a pharmacist in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States;

And
You must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing inpatient pharmacy services and preparing the complete range of sterile products (parenteral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition, and intravenous additives for a large medical facility); interfacing with physicians in the design of drug treatment plans; designing, conducting and participating in studies, audits and evaluations concerning drug utilization; providing drug information to physicians, nurses and patients on investigational drugs being utilized; compounding drugs as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists.
