Summary

This position is located in the Pharmacy Branch within the Division of Clinical Services, at Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, NM. The incumbent serves as a Clinical Applications Coordinator (CAC) and Pharmacy informaticist, providing an advanced level of competency in pharmacy care and improving patient care through the use of automation tools such as the computerization of clinical information to improve the standard of direct patient care.

Duties

  • Implements and supports multi-service software packages that automate the capture of clinical encounter information and its subsequent retrieval.
  • Analyzes and evaluates processes related to information flow. Serves as liaison between service lines, clinics and departments concerning these processes, both clinical, business and administrative.
  • Provides training on current software applications, new features and ensures training is scheduled for new users.
  • Works with various departments in the refining and evaluation of existing health-related software modules and programs.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations for process design and assess current process deficiencies created through the implementation of new technology.
  • Works with the Clinical Applications Coordinator with items that relate to the pharmacy side of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) including all EHR patches that effect pharmacy.
  • Evaluates medication regimens for appropriateness, interactions, therapeutic duplications, nonadherence, and adverse drug events.
  • Provides education to patients and their families about medications and health-related information.
  • Keeps abreast of appropriate issues and trends as they relate to health care education.

Routine duties shall include providing pharmacy and drug information services to individuals eligible for services provided by the lHS in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Service Unit.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Individual Occupational Requirements

Education
A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure
Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-0660-12
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing clinical pharmacy and drug information services to individuals and the preparation of the complete range of sterile products and intravenous additives for a medical facility; ensuring correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; advising physicians of possible safety issues; compounding drugs as prescribed; and teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists.

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
