Duties

As a Physical Security Specialist at the GS-0080-12 level, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Conducting testing of security and screening equipment (e.g., walk-thru metal detectors, x -ray machines, explosive trace detection units, handheld metal detectors, duress alarms, cameras, intercoms, entry control packages, etc.).
  • Conveying complex security requirements and recommendations.
  • Planning, scheduling, coordinating, and carrying out Judicial Security work.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-0080-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 level of the Federal Service that includes: 1) Inspecting and ensuring the proper installation, function, and maintenance of security equipment; 2) Assessing difficult and complex security problems, including analyzing alternatives to recommend corrective actions; and3) Testing security and screening equipment to evaluate security vulnerabilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
