Physican (Pathology)

• Serves as a technical authority to independently plan and carry out the assigned work to be performed by the staff.
• Provides expert consultation and consults with clinicians concerning complex pathological diagnoses.
• Provides Anatomic and Clinical Pathology services such as surgical pathology, cytology, and autopsy services and transfusion medicine, core lab, and microbiology services.
• Cuts surgical specimens from surgical, radiological, and other invasive procedures, render expert gross and microscopic diagnoses, and perform frozen section evaluations as requested.
• Interprets and establish policies and procedures and determines their effect on program needs.

Conditions of employment

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for: Physician (Pathology):

Degree:Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Experience/Training: Applicants must possess 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled Pathology and equivalent experience and trainingequal to at least 3 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

A salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved.

Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade and location. This announcement may be used to fill positions at any of the tiers listed below:

Tier 2: $200,000 - $400,000
