    The physician is a member of the Primary Care Team, and is an independent primary health care provider who examines, diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases and disorders, as well as diagnose related systemic conditions. The primary job function is to diagnose patients seeking medical advice and attention either from injury or a debilitating disease.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

    Responsibilities
    • Obtains patient's medical records and history, orders tests and accurately diagnose and provide treatment.
    • Responsible for the outpatient care of a panel of 1300 patients.
    • The position must apply for Medical Staff Membership and request privileges.
    • This position will agree to abide by the medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and other policies and procedures of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
    • This position will participate in the continuous quality improvement program.
    • Performance shall be subject to quality review and must meet local performance standards.
    • Staff physicians must be familiar with and comply with all national standards utilized at this medical treatment facility, including The Joint Commission and National Committee for Quality Assurance {NCQA) standards.
    • The physician shall document all medical care through the use of the electronic medical record. To include the use of clinical reminders for documentation of care as well as consults, progress notes, doctor's orders, etc.

    Qualifications
    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2021.
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is located on a beautifully landscaped 75-acre tract in Dublin, Georgia. The facility provides both acute and extended care services and has approximately 1000+ employees providing comprehensive health care to veterans in Middle and South Georgia.

    Services provided at the medical center include primary care, mental health, ambulatory and primary care, optometry, women's health, and extended care, as well as specialized programs to include cardiology, pulmonary, general surgery, podiatry, urology, and physical therapy. Mental Health services available include treatment for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and general psychiatric care.

    In addition to the services available at our medical center, Primary Care services are provided at six community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) - located in Albany, Brunswick, Milledgeville, Macon, Perry and Tifton, Georgia.
