This position is located in the Primary Care Service, at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System. This position provides support to the Primary Care of veterans and his/her significant others within the ECHCS area of responsibility.
The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1A facility, covering more than 44,000 sq. miles, serving Veterans in eastern Colorado and surrounding states. The VA Medical Center is located in Aurora, Colorado, with Community Based Outpatient Clinics located throughout Colorado: Alamosa, Aurora, Golden, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar. There are Primary Care Telehealth Outreach Clinics in Burlington and Salida. ECHCS also collaborates in a joint venture DoD ambulatory surgical center at the Air Force Academy, 10th Medical Group in Colorado Springs, Colorado. ECHCS, DoD and VBA partner in an Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) Center at Fort Carson. There is one Community Living Centers in Pueblo with 40 beds. Additional free-standing healthcare sites include the Jewell Polytrauma/Low Vision Clinic, the Homeless Domiciliary (Valor Point), and the Community Resource and Reference Center (CRRC). ECHCS has a strong academic affiliation with the University of Colorado, supports more than 148.25 medical residents, and trains over 400 allied health professionals. ECHCS has over $23.1 million in funded research and 158 principal investigators.
The incumbent serves as a Section Chief of Staff for Primary Care Service, at the VA ECHCS. The Section Chief of Primary Care Service is a full-time position and is organizationally aligned under the Associate Chief of Staff. Primary Care Service offers a variety of clinical primary care services.
The Section Chief of Primary Care has oversight of primary care services provided to Veterans within ECHCS. Additionally, the incumbent will provide clinical services to eligible Veterans. The incumbent is expected to interact with the Veteran as well as family members, significant others, community agencies, and other staff. The Section Chief assists with the overall operation and supervision of this complex clinical service including resident and student education, medical staff leadership, research, quality improvement, maintenance of reusable medical equipment, and the provision of excellent patient care. He/she insures national, network, and local missions, values, vision, and performance measures are supported and met, provides efficient management of resources and budgetary constraints, facilities a collaborative team environment, develops orientation and training of pertinent clinical staff under the service, and proactively identifies needs and concerns concerning the service.
Work Schedule: 8am to 430pm Monday through Friday

VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
