Duties include but are not limited to the following:
The psychiatrist treats Veterans with acute psychiatric conditions in the Warriors Recovery Unit (WRU) and functions as a consultant to the Emergency Department for mental health consults. The psychiatrist provides comprehensive psychiatric care to Veterans referred for neuromodulation services in the Treatment Resistant Depression program (TRD), providing appropriate treatments (ketamine, electroconvulsive therapy) within the psychiatrist's approved medical center privileges. In addition, the psychiatrist will participate in residency training, education, and research/program development.
- All psychiatrists are responsible for understanding and applying the VA mission; establishing and maintaining effective and productive relationships with health care system administration, staff, Veterans, and the community as appropriate; compliance with training requirements and contributing to a safe environment for all Veterans and staff. All psychiatrists will participate in the Peer Review process.
- Adhering to all applicable VACO, VISN and Asheville VA policies, rules, and regulations and to the Asheville VAHCS Medical Staff Bylaws
- Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and working independently to complete all clinical assignments regardless of setting. She/he uses sound, professional judgment when rendering clinical care and interacting with VA customers.
- Providing team-based leadership in the application of clinical practice to organizational processes and/or systems improving outcomes at the service level to achieve excellent customer satisfaction.
- Ensuring compliance with clinical practice guidelines and working collaboratively with others.
- All physicians will always work within their privileges, unless necessitated by an emergency.
- Fostering systems that promote state-of-the-art acute, chronic, and preventive mental health care.

- Active membership on committees as assigned and providing a supportive environment when engaged in activities such as teaching, residency training, and research/program development.

Relationships with management, co-workers, Veterans, and the general public are consistently courteous, respectful, and cooperative in nature. Incumbent will display a cooperative attitude and will effectively work together to implement the organization's mission and goals.
Incumbent will ensure productivity is maintained at the established level for the program for which he/she is responsible. Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Education Debt Reduction Program:
EDRP Authorized:This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
