FOR GS-09: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
- Working as part of an interdisciplinary team with more senior planning specialists to perform planning and NEPA document components.
- Coordinates land use planning efforts with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Insuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

FOR GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:
- Experience with land use and multiple use resource management planning or member of an interdisciplinary team working on planning and environmental analysis processes, principles, and practices;
- Reviewing planning and National Environmental Policy Act documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations;
- Developing public land-related planning strategies and procedures, professional writing, and policy development.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
or LL.M., if related.

Physical Demands: The individual works primarily in an office setting at this level. There may be some walking, standing or bending. There is some infrequent field work in this position, therefore, the individual may on occasion be required to walk or ride vehicles or horseback over rough terrain, and perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Work may also include lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment and samples and boxes of files.
Work Environment: The work is performed primarily in an office setting for long hours and under tight deadlines. However, when necessary to complete the work, there may be outdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure requires some discomfort in extremes of temperature or inclement weather.
