Plumber

• As a Plumber, you will perform the following duties which is not all inclusive list:
• Independently install, modify, repair and maintain a variety of new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment.
• Plan work based on oral instructions, preventive maintenance programs, work orders, emergency calls, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and layout sketches.
• Plan the sequence of work and determines the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned projects.
• Use sound judgment to identify and resolve routine issues and refers unusual or difficult problems to the supervisor.
• Install valves and traps as needed for proper operation of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment.
• Use shop mathematics to layout angles, arcs, circles and in planning the layout of plumbing or piping systems.
• Ensure completed work complies with instructions, applicable standards, and acceptable workmanship requirements.

Conditions of employment

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is designated as a Primary LEO and the work requires frequent, direct contact in the detention of inmates convicted of offenses against the punitive articles of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
• The maximum entry age for positions covered under the special Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) retirement is 37 years old.
• Individuals must be appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual becomes age 37. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, may be reinstated.
• Employee must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Personnel must undergo screening for tuberculosis upon employment and periodic screening thereafter.
• DoDI 1325.7 states all confinement facility personnel shall possess a high degree of maturity and emotional stability.
• Section 639 of Public Law 106-554 requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony.
• Regularly assigned contacts with inmates expose the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such as verbal and/or physical attack by the inmate population.
• The employee will comply with the strict provisions established by ACC policy and local facility/activity policy on staff standards of conduct.
• Completion of the Army Corrections Command Pre-Service Training program emphasizing the responsibilities to maintain security and control of inmates, appropriate staff/inmate interaction and understanding the rules of inmate conduct.
• All personnel of the Military Correctional Complex are required to take 40 hours of training annually. Employees will receive basic training in inmate supervision and security as well as specialized training in their field.
• Personnel who enter the Military Corrections Complex consent to inspection of their person and property, including their vehicle, at any time their property or vehicle is within any area under the control of the USDB or MWJRCF.
• IAW The Prison Rape Elimination Act, the MCC may not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates, has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup community conferment facility, juvenile facility, or other institution (42 USC 1997).
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position has a moderate to heavy requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain Back Flow Prevention Certification within six (6) months of employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber without more than normal supervision. Tasks including making repairs and/or installation of plumbing fixtures, disposal systems and equipment. Install and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, fittings, valves, drains, water heaters, pumps, hot water systems, and related equipment. Work from verbal instructions only. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

• PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
• WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.

The employee's reporting place of duty is in the Military Corrections Complex but outside of thefacility walls. Employee spends 70% of their workday within the United States Disciplinary Barracks,Joint Regional Confinement Facility and the Trustee Unit performing the duties above. Inmate contactexposes the incumbent to daily stress and the threat of potentially dangerous situations such asphysical attack or riots by the inmate population.

This position has been designated as a primary/rigorous and is eligible for Law Enforcement (LEO) retirement coverage under the provisions of title 5 USC 8336(c) and 8412(d) by DoD memorandum dated January 18, 2022. The maximum entry age for positions covered under this retirement is 37 years old. Retirement from this position is mandatory at age 57 with 20 years of LEO service. The maximum entry age may be waived under certain circumstances. Individuals who are past the maximum entry age limit, but previously served in a primary position, MAY be reinstated.
