Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Performs repairs on a variety of powered support, heavy mobile and automotive equipment.
  • Performs repairs on a variety of systems and equipment, such as electrical, generators, voltage and current regulators, starter motors, magnetos, distributors, electrical governors, automatic relays, and battery chargers.
  • Operates and maintains manual or automatic electrical switching equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs a variety of dual function air conditioning/heating units used to cool and heat.
  • Performs diagnoses and repairs on Aircraft Arresting Barrier Systems (AAS).
  • Drives vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of fewer than 10,000 pounds to transport equipment throughout the installation and on public roads for short hauls.
  • Operates fork lifts capable of lifting loads in excess of 10,000 pounds, higher than 168 inches, to load and move heavy power equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the lifting and carrying items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Employee is required to complete pre-employment and annual physicals.
  • The work requires the employee to operate a forklift up to 15,000-pound capacity to move heavy power support equipment.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 2 1/2 ton truck. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Probationary period maybe required of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Powered Support Systems Mechanics without more than normal supervision. Experience making repairs on electrical systems, generators, voltage and current regulators, starter motors, and magnetos. Experince operating common tools such as distributors, electrical governors, automatic relays, battery chargers, electromagnets, transfer switches, fuel pumps, and/or oil pumps. Working under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 75 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Uses lifting devices such as overhead cranes, hoists and forklifts to lift and position heavy items.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a large maintenance building which is generally well lit and heated. Exposed to exhaust fumes, chemicals, excessive noise, dirt, oil, grease, etc. Subject to cuts, bruises, back strains, shocks, burns and skin irritation. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment as required.
