This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.
The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.
Physical Demands: Assignments involve a broad range of activities and highly specialized utility, trade, craft, maintenance, and/or preservation functions. The work requires the various technical and physical skills needed to meet the continuing requirements of a comprehensive program involving preventive maintenance and repair, problem diagnosis and management, construction management, safety and first aid, and enforcement of regulations, codes, and mandates. The incumbent spends approximately 90% of the workday on supervisory matters. From time to time, will perform the same duties as the crew members. The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The incumbent oversees the operations of various facility and maintenance functions such as buildings, utilities, roads, fleet, preventative maintenance, historic preservation. Responsibilities include working along roadways, responding to storm damage emergencies such as floods, snow, ice, wind, and rainstorms. The incumbent oversees the operational response to emergencies such as storm damage, traffic accident damage, and/or special events which require immediate attention.
