For GS-5: You must possess one (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 obtained in either the public or private sector. This experience must include;
- Ability to review and analyze data obtained from various databases, records, and files.
- Ability to interview and respond to routine procedural questions.
- Ability to prepare routine written correspondence.
OR-
Four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR-
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below.
- For GS-5 level positions (except Clerk-Stenographer, which does not require specialized experience), only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
For GS-6: You must possess one (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-5 obtained in either the public or private sector. This experience must include;
- Broad knowledge of comprehensive rules, regulations, techniques, and procedures concerning oil and gas production.
- Ability to conduct detailed review and analysis of production records for high priority cases.
- Write reports using data analyzed during records verification or production audit inspections to document the findings, results, and corrective actions.
For GS-7: You must possess one (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-6 obtained in either the public or private sector. This experience must include;
- Ability to conduct Records Analysis (RA) reviews of Federal/Indian oil and gas leases, agreements, and units for high priority cases.
- Ability to recalculate oil and gas volumes from the operator's data using complex algebraic formulas as needed to verify reported production.
- Provide recommendations and supporting documentation for appropriate course of action to Petroleum Engineering Technicians (PETs), supervisor, and law enforcement.
For GS-8: You must possess one (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-7 obtained in either the public or private sector. This experience must include;
- Is a subject matter expert on specialized auditing methods and procedures for oil and gas lease cases using AFMSS2 and Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR) databases.
- Serves as a technical authority, providing guidance, assistance, and training on complex or unusual production accountability reviews and resolutions.
- Is a technical authority with team members, industry, sister agencies, and peers, providing guidance, assistance, and training on complex or unusual production accountability reviews and resolutions such as those with commingling or allocation agreements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: The work involves light physical activity associated with office work. It may involve some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items. The incumbent is subject to high levels of concentration, as well as pressures associated with meeting deadlines and adjusting to sudden unexpected shifts in priority and workload.
Work Environment: The work environment is primarily in a business office setting. Occasional site visits to field locations require the use of personal protection equipment and sound safety practices when exposed to moving machinery, explosive mixtures of gases or liquids, and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas. Site visits may also require climbing stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to inclement weather.
