You will serve as a Professor (Associate/Full) at the TSC, Arctic Security Studies.

Duties

As a Professor (Associate/Full) at the AD-1701-7 some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Educate, connect, and empower international and U.S. leaders and security practitioners on Arctic security and defense challenges and opportunities.
  • Make positive contributions to a collegial, team-centric working environment based on the core values of transparency, and mutual respect.
  • Create and present executive education content that spurs discussion, reflection, and learning among program participants.
  • Facilitate objective-based discussions among fellows that encourage consolidation of learning and critical reasoning.
  • Contribute to distinguished visitor engagements with subject matter expertise.
  • Perform various administrative and institutional duties to support the executive education functions of the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies.
  • Develop, manage, coordinate, conduct, and assess all aspects of academic engagements, including on-line and in-person courses, workshops, and partnerships.

Qualifications

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed (NTE) three (3) years. Term appointments may be extended thereafter in one, two, or three year increments, indefinitely. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical and dental benefits, life insurance, and retirement. You will also be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

You may qualify at the AD-07, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the AD-05 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
  • Deep understanding of joint and combined operations in Arctic environments
  • Wargaming and scenario development with a focus on cold-weather regions
  • Expertise in NATO, U.S., Russian, and Arctic nations' military doctrines
  • Ability to assess defense policies impacting Arctic sovereignty, deterrence, and force posture
  • Knowledge of Arctic geography, choke points (e.g., Bering Strait, GIUK gap), and critical infrastructure (e.g., NORAD, radar systems)
AND

B. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.;

OR

C. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
