Duties
Navy Wounded Warrior (NWW) is the Navy's sole organization for coordinating the nonmedical care of seriously ·wounded, ill and injured Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, their family members and caregivers. Through proactive leadership, we provide a lifetime of individually tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of our Shipmates' recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration activities. The program is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Regional nonmedical care providers are located at major Navy medical treatment facilities throughout the U.S.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Case Management - 90%
- Provides bedside support to Navy and Coast Guard recovering service members (RStv1) and their families through minimizing delays and gaps in treatment or services. Obtains permission from RSMs to gather and exchange necessary information about the RSMs, family members, and caregivers in accordance with Privacy Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIP AA) regulations.
- Conducts initial assessment of service member and family to identify any non-medical issues.
- Works alongside agencies and service providers to facilitate case coordination and information sharing. Helps patient and family make informed decisions.
- Coordinates with member Parent Command and Casualty Assistance Calls Officers to arrange invitational travel orders for family members, assisting with travel claims.
- Consults and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams during initial treatment phase and continuing throughout the continuum of care.
- Ensures that the RSMs, family, and caregivers have access to all medical and nonmedical services including rehabilitation education, employment-related programs, and disability benefits.
- Initiates referrals to Department of Defense (DoD)/Federal, State and local Governments and non-governmental organizations. intervening when necessary to ensure delivery of services.
- Assists with Navy personnel-specific issues such as orders, pay, housing, fitness reports/evaluations, awards and promotions, etc.
- Provides information and referral services on all transitional and survivor assistance programs including VA benefits and entitlements, Social Security Administration {SSA) benefits and entitlements, Department of Labor (DOL) employment assistance. educational assistance, housing, relocation assistance, and coordination of family travel.
- Ensures seamless transition of Saiior and family from military treatment facility (MTF) to VA or civilian healthcare systems, providing support and assistance in anticipation of challenges.
- Provides information and referrals as necessary for the Sailor to make informed decisions regarding continuation on active duty. Documents uniformed member and family member information in program's electronic database of record and prepares required reports.
- Responds to inquiries and provides information, guidance and assistance \Vith information release approval from the Chain of Command.
- Submits an required documentation on assigned cases via the program's system of record. Provides reports and updates on cases are required.
Program Support - 10%
- Provides program briefs and participates in public awareness efforts to educate the fleet on NWW.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. driver's license.
Occasional travel of 25% or less may be required.
Position may be telework eligible per IAW DoD and Navy policy.

Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of requirements and operations of DoD or Department of Navy (DON) Wounded Warrior initiatives, implementing congressionally and DoD mandated warrior and family/caregiver requirements.
- Knowledge of Federal and agency regulations, knowledge of the specific organization's programs and missions, as well as knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and policies related to program operations.
- Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Privacy Act and the Freedom of Information Act.
- Skill in working with individuals with serious illness, injuries and wounds causing physical and mental disabilities.
- Skill in computer applications for administrative support functions and knowledge of variety of common administrative software, applications, and web-based programs, to include but not limited to, TWMS, Defense Travel Systems (DTS), NAF travel system and Microsoft Office suite applications.
- Ability to identify problems, plan, research, collect, sort, and analyze information to formulate plan of action and milestones for the accomplishment of tasks.
- Ability to manage several major projects concurrently, each of which require multiple tasks across many different levels of the Navy (e.g., local commands, regions, and headquarters) and other government agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment on time sensitive issues.
- Ability to work effectively on a team or individually with various levels of management and staff.
