Position Description Title/PD#: Program Support Assistant/
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Work will involve some walking (between different offices, and to/from different areas of the Service), standing, bending, and lifting of light objects (such as books, files, papers, etc.), as well as a good deal of work on a computer keyboard.
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and may be posted up to September 30, 2022. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be March 31,2022 with subsequent cut-off dates on the 1st and 15th of each month. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.
Major duties included but are not limited:
- Eligibility verification for fee basis (non-VA Care services).
- Data entry according to protocol and SOPs.
- Prepares authorizations and ensures proper documents accompany patient to the provider.
- Resolves matters of delay in processing Veterans with TAMC, DOD, Community Care, or Fee Basis appointments.
- Prepares denial letters and forwards to Veterans and providers if Fee Basis request is denied.
- Obtains and maintains access to necessary electronic medical records for both VA and DoD.
- Weekly/monthly monitoring active/scheduled consults.
- Receives incoming calls and personal contacts from patients, families, VA practitioners and private sector vendors.
- Processes incoming reports of recommendations from outside physicians and forwards to appropriate VA practitioners.
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
- Coordinate and liaise with healthcare providers, clinic staff and administrative staff;
- Prepare written correspondence;
- Pull data and create reports;
- Answer phone calls;
- Verify information for accuracy.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Typing Requirement: Applicants for this position must possess a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute. Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Applicants may meet this requirement by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
