Summary

The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Homeless Program Coordinator who oversees the service delivery and coordination of care activities for homeless eligible Veterans or eligible at-risk of homelessness. The Homeless Program includes the Housing Urban Development - Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program as well as the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV), VA Grant & Per Diem Program (GPD) and Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) Homeless Programs

Duties

Major Duties include:

  • Provides for the overall administrative support for the Homeless Program.
  • Establishes internal procedures to secure adequate control in terms of deadlines, progress reports and directives and uses own initiative in developing procedures which will increase the general flow of information, access to care and overcome bottlenecks in the administrative process.
  • Maintains responsibility for Homeless Program correspondence.
  • Ensures accurate, timely and consistent entry of information in appropriate databases(s).
  • Acts as a purchase cardholder for Homeless Program fund control points and Social Work Service as needed.
  • Functions as an initial Point of Contact (POC) for Veterans seeking assistance from the Social Work Service Homeless Program, either by phone or in person.
  • Communicates directly on a daily basis with the Homeless Program Coordinator, HUD-VASH, HCHV and VJO supervisors, and clinical staff regarding issues affecting program operations.
  • Monitors and supports the structures and processes in support of community-based partners who have established Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the Medical Center in order to provide supplemental resources and services to Veterans.
  • Performs all aspects of timekeeping for the Homeless Program or as designated by the Site Manager.
  • Serves as ADPAC and is the point of contact for reported electronic (hardware/software) needs, equipment needs, difficulties and failures for the Homeless Program.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and is performed by sitting, standing, bending, and stooping. The employee is required to obtain records from files, and carry files, manuals, and other light objects up to 20 pounds. Occasional travel in the community to attend meetings and events when determined to be necessary and appropriate. The work environment includes everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, meetings, and training rooms. Travel may involve use of private and/or commercial conveyance. The employee adheres to infection control guidelines and safe work practices as trained whether on site or in the community.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; answering and directing phone calls; preparing correspondence; maintaining files/records; and using a computer to perform a variety of support tasks. At this grade level, applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to perform assignments independently with minimal oversight. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
