Summary

This position is in the Crime Victims Compensation Program of the D.C. Superior Court. The Program provides compensation to eligible victims of crimes, survivors of homicide victims, and dependent family members who qualify to receive compensation awards in accordance with the governing statutes and rules. 

This is a grant funded part-time temporary position. The hours will be 1:00 PM- 5:00 PM.

Duties

Brief Description of Major Duties: 

As the Program Support Assistant, the incumbent: 

  • Provides effective customer service by responding to telephone and email inquiries from the public. 
  • Performs first-level review of applications for Assistant Claims Examiners. 
  • Archives historical applications and all other documents in connection with applications. 
  • Performs data entry into the Claims Assistance System database. 
  • Reviews applications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the program's standard operating procedures and Court rules. 
  • Performs inquiries to assess the needs of claimants relating to housing placement. 
  • Coordinates temporary emergency housing placements for eligible claimants requesting such service. 
  • Monitors inboxes and disseminates documents received to the appropriate team member. 
  • Assists the Assistant Legal Claims Examiners and Legal Claims Examiners with all necessary investigation, research, studies, and information gathering to resolve customer service issues and concerns.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or GED plus three (3) years of administrative or clerical experience in a court, legal, or office environment. Experience working in a court or claims/benefits processing office preferred. 

Education Substitution: 

Associates degree plus one (1) year of administrative or clerical experience in a court, legal, or office environment.  

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required.  If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
