Job Description (Please follow all instructions carefully)

Summary

Serve as a Prosthetic Clerk for the Bruce W Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Miami, being first point of contact for both internal and external customers. Responsible for answering phone calls, emails, receive walk-ins, and respond to questions regarding the Prosthetics program. Will ensure equipment and supply information will be correctly recorded, receive and distribute packages, and insure that packages are coordinated and delivered to the correct location.

Duties

Major duties included but are not limited to:

  • Dispense off the shelf inventory items patients, family and providers and accurately stock post items to records.
  • Verify eligibility prior to issuing out any equipment to patient, family member or provider.
  • Review incoming shipment for correct quantities, items, and initiates actions to correct deficiencies.
  • Initiate and carry out a cast array of advisory and technical duties.
  • Validate data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data, vendor demographics to ensure line items are accurate on patient record and purchase order.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8AM - 4:30 PM

Physical Requirements: Work can be sedentary in nature at times but does not require moving and lifting equipment up to 60lbs and being able to walk through the hospital for extended periods as required for deliveries. The work are is adequately lighter, heated, and ventilated.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients, family and providers; receive, open, and review all property and determine if property needs to be brought to the attention of the supervisor; validate data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data; operate software package to maintain detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken and document records to show all items and services provided; review all consults that are submitted and address all urgent consults promptly as they are received; contact providers as needed due to inappropriate consults.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have education equivalent to 4 years above high school. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
