Duties
Incumbent should be skilled in providing comprehensive psychiatric medical care (assessment, consultation, treatment) with a focus on providing care to Veterans with addictions and substance use disorders. Incumbent must be skilled in general outpatient psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, including diagnostic evaluations, pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. S/he should be competent in the management of individuals with a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to substance use disorders, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychiatric disorders in the elderly Veteran population. Incumbent is encouraged to be involved in medical student, psychiatry resident and addiction psychiatry fellow education.
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading and coordinating the operations of a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health team with a focus on uninterrupted high-quality care to Veterans;
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with hospital and mental health policies, regulations, executive orders and management directives; collaborating with other teams/team leaders to improve communication and to ensure ongoing continuity of care for Veterans;
- Planning, organizing, and directing administrative, operational, patient and personnel activities for the team in conjunction with the Clinical Directors of Mental Health Team;
- Coordinating interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, resource allocation and direct patient care;
In addition to administrative supervision, s/he may provide clinical supervision for health care professionals such as Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
Veterans served by the Gold Team tend to have serious and severe crises, be dually diagnosed, and have numerous psychosocial deficits. Treatment provided occurs through an outpatient clinic in Dallas (main campus), an outpatient opioid replacement program, and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
VANTHCS MHS provides a full range of mental health services including general adult psychiatry, geriatrics, forensics, psychosomatic medicine, substance abuse sub-specialty services, trauma services, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery programs, comprehensive homeless programs, peer support services, opiate replacement programs, Mental Health Intensive Case Management, vocational rehabilitation programs, domiciliary based programs and inpatient programs. There is ongoing active research in addiction psychiatry, post-traumatic stress disorder, disaster psychiatry, mood disorders, and homelessness. Clinical training programs exist for medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, clinical psychologists, social workers and nurses. VA North Texas Health Care System has an active relationship with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as our primary affiliate.

the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- ABPN or AOBNP Board Certified (or eligible)
- Buprenorphine and Methadone Treatment experience
- 5+ years of VA experience as a psychiatrist
- VA Leadership experience (e.g., Team Leader, Section Chief, etc.)
- Addiction Fellowship
