Duties
- Develop, writes, edits, implements communication outreach via media releases, talking points, web content, social media, presentation, and publications. Assists with internal/external engagement of park issues, operations and events that lead to informed decision making by park leadership.
- Provides leadership of the park's social media team and develops and manages social media strategies through knowledge of several social media platforms.
- Establishes and maintains effective and positive working relationships at all levels of the organization that fosters teamwork and collaboration. Models behavior that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
- Researches and responds in a timely and appropriate manner to public, media, elected officials, community groups and stakeholders' inquiries with the latest accurate information available. Serves as park spokesperson for routine and non-controversial subjects.
- Serves as park's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) coordinator. Receives and organizes responsive documents as requested through the official FOIA process.
Physical Demands: The work is usually performed at a desk, however there are frequent visits to outdoor sites within the park, which may expose employee to inclement weather or require movement over rough and uneven terrain. Long or unpredictable hours and stressful situations are common.
Work Environment: Work will often be completed in an office setting, but some exposures to hazardous terrain, inclement weather and extreme temperatures may occur. Long periods of standing and talking and sitting at a computer.

Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: assisting with the production of informative print and electronic and digital products in support of an organization's communication objectives; writing a variety of public affairs materials to convey information about an organization to reach targeted audiences; assisting with coordination of public information and media functions; and researching, developing, producing, and publishing content for social media and web-based platforms. You must include months/years and hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position. Applicable fields of study include communications, government, business administration, public administration, graphic design, and broadcasting, or similar. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of specialized experience and education in excess of one year of graduate study. EXAMPLE: Completion of 27 semester hours (1 and a half years) equals 50% of required graduate level education plus six (6) months, 50% of specialized experience equals to 100% of the experience requirement for this grade level. You must include transcripts.
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
