Duties

The incumbent's responsibility, first and foremost, is to lead by example, to shape and sustain a working environment most conducive to the successful performance of those entrusted to his/her leadership and direction; creating a positive atmosphere and culture within the Semper Fit Division and its constituent branches that reflects the pride, professionalism, sense of accomplishment, fulfillment, collaborative engagement, well-being, and wholehearted customer focus of its employees is the incumbent's essential purpose and focus of main effort.

Assists with the supervision and managing of daily operations and programs. The facility consists of cardiovascular machines, selectorized exercise machines, free weights and plate loaded benches and machines, televisions, stereo sound system, saunas, locker rooms, towel laundry service. Other amenities may include indoor track, outdoor artificial turf, indoor pool, family changing locker rooms, racquetball courts, indoor basketball courts, group exercise rooms, spin room, personal training assessment room, classroom. Assists with competitions, fitness clubs, and develops other programs designed for Marines, Sailors and Coastguardsmen.

Assists in establishing work schedules to ensure adequate personnel are available to support scheduled events and daily workload. Provides on-the-job training (e.g., equipment usage, fitness principles, telephone etiquette) to ensure employees are proficient in current job duties and responsibilities and are aware of Marine Corps Community Services and Fitness policies and procedures. Responsible for purchasing supplies; acts as a resource for patrons regarding fitness development; acts as the Fire Marshal for the facility; prepares reports as requested; evaluates programs and makes recommendations accordingly.

Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, disciplinary actions, completing performance reviews, signing timesheets, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol/substance abuse and take appropriate action.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program. Advise employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials, and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents/injury to the Human Resources Office. Ensures that safety training is provided to employees. Complies with OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions and follows through with appropriate action. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with "Return to Work" program initiatives and following up on employee well-being.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

A minimum of three years' experience in planning, organizing, and administering in a fitness related field, one year having been at a supervisory level. A degree from an accredited college/university in Fitness or a related field is preferred. Must be certified as a personal fitness trainer by one of the following: Approved National Certification includes one of the five organizations designated by Marine Corps Headquarters; American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research (CIAR), and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFFA). First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and CPR certification is required.  This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45bs independently and objects over 45bs with assistance
