This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

This is an obligated position.

Duties

  • Performs required maintenance/adjustments for various electrical and pneumatic targets such as target holding devices, mechanisms.
  • Performs required maintenance and up keep of training areas and firing ranges.
  • Operate various motor vehicles from ATVs to 4 wheel drive 3/4 - ton, 2500 crew cab pick-up trucks, riding lawn mowers, tractors with attached equipment (buckets forklift).

  • Temporary duty travel (5% or less) away from the normal duty station may be required.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This is an inclement weather position.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This is a Term NTE 2 years position.

Qualifications

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Range Maintenance Worker (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex maintenance tasks in support of multiple live fire ranges and training facilities. I am able to fabricate with a high degree of efficiency range and training support devices such as barricades, firing points, and target identification stakes and signs, target frames, target panels, moving target tracks, and other training devices not characterized as training aids. I am able to perform more than routine maintenance on stationary infantry targets and stationary armor targets, as well as other targetry variations utilized on ranges. I am able to repair multiple target systems types as needed. I can install targets on various automated targetry devices such as remote target system, stationary infantry targets and stationary armor targets and movers. I am highly skilled in repairing wooden and metal structures such as warehouses, storage sheds, range target houses, control towers, latrine buildings, maintenance sheds, and other related range support facilities. I have the ability to install rafters, studs, sills, plates, braces, joists, floors, subfloors, sheetrock, plywood, siding, roofing, building paper, insulating materials, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Requires frequent lifting, positioning and carrying of target mechanisms, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions and climbing up and down steep flights of stairs. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather conditions. Works and drives on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to danger of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts, burns, electrical shocks, and falls. Hearing protection and other safety equipment are issued and must be used. Incumbent is required to work evenings, nights and weekends on a rotating shift, to cover 24 hour a day, 7 day a week range operation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this position.
