Summary

This position is located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Program.

Incentives and Bonuses

  • Retention Incentive (Cash Bonus) in the amount up to $1,000.00 is authorized.
  • Selectees are eligible to receive a cash bonus of $500.00 after working 50 hours and an additional $500.00 after working 100 hours.

Duties

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.

  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Possess and maintain Lifeguarding certificate and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS).
  • Possess and maintain American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED) certificate.
  • Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.
  • Must be able to work a schedule that may include working some nights, weekends, and possible holidays.
  • Must be 16 (sixteen) years old at the time of appointment.
  • Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high temperature and humidity.
  • In cases of exposure to infectious disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  • Lifeguard must have good vision - 20/40 or better (corrected with glasses or contacts or uncorrected). This is necessary while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents and rule breaking.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
  • Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
  • May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
  • All required certifications must be kept current.
