Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience in fitness facility operation desired.
- One-year experience in fitness and/or recreation, with demonstrated ability to maintain and perform required functions for the operation of a fitness facility.
- Incumbent must have knowledge of the principles and methods used in providing support for physical fitness programs.
- Must have the ability to repair and maintain various types of fitness equipment to include aerobic, strength (both variable weight and plate loaded) and other weight lifting equipment.
- Incumbent must be able to demonstrate alertness, reliability and the ability to deal with others. Must have knowledge of various types of physical fitness and weight equipment in order to provide basic instruction proper use.
- Must be neat in appearance; have a pleasant personality; be sensitive to changing needs; and apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers/patrons.
- Must use imagination and resourcefulness in solving problems.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
