Duties
Conducts Fitness Assessments, screening participants for medical risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire. Maintains current files on all patrons. Refers high risk patrons to supervisor.
Performs personal training sessions. Instructs and demonstrates proper biomechanic technique for use of all resistance training and cardiovascular exercise equipment. Explains applicable kinesiology of each machine. Shows patrons how to properly monitor heart rate while exercising. Demonstrates and explains the importance of warm-up, cool-down and flexibility.
Issues workout cards and other necessary paperwork dealing with assessments and exercise sessions. Is responsible for upkeep of records (facility membership cards, personal training, daily activity reports, client records, and health risk forms, etc).
Performs routine inspections and is responsible for minor maintenance on the facility and preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure that all items are operating properly and safely. Ensures that entire fitness center is maintained in a clean and orderly condition inside and out. Ensures that the fitness center is prepared for scheduled and special events. Completes all required shift duties. Opens and closes facility as necessary.
Assists with the operation of the fitness facility in accordance with M WR regulations and instructions. Provides accurate and current information to patrons about fitness and sports programs. Implements principles and behaviors of effective customer service. Issues equipment to patrons, documenting required information at all times. Conducts daily equipment inventories and hourly patron counts. Files incident reports in a timely manner to supervisor.
May be required to assist with special events or cover shifts at either fitness center.
Collects money from patrons and keeps a change fund. Is responsible for the Daily Activity Report at the end of each shift.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation (NACI).
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Work schedule is subject to change and may include working evenings, weekends, holidays, as well as split days off.
- Will be required to obtain Emergency First Responder or CPR/First Aid/AED certification, Customer Service Training and MWR Food and Beverage Alcohol Safety Certification within the first 60 days of employment.
- Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, and at least 18 years of age, are required to certify that they have registered with the Selective Service System (Attach proof of registration).
- Candidates must be in possession of No-Fee government passport, Italian mission visa, Sponsor's Orders and Sojourner's permit or application letter.
Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:Six (6) months of general experience
and six (6) months of specialized experience in Fitness at the NF-01 level or equivalent
OR two (2) years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in courses related to recreation/physical education or related.
General experience: any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position.
Specialized experience: experience at the NF-01 level (or equivalent) that is typically in or related to the work of this position.

To determine order of referral, qualified candidates will be evaluated in conjunction with the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (K.S.A.):
- Knowledge of the methods involved in various types of fitness or sports activities.
- Practical knowledge of exercise science, physicalfitness or related fields.
- Knowledge of basic cardiovascular risk factors, weight loss and nutritional habits, proper bio-mechanic techniques.
- Skill in giving instructions concerning proper use of exercise equipment.
- Ability to maintain records and reports.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to handle emergency situations.
Education
