Implementation of the REAL ID Act begins May 7, 2025. From that day on, anyone 18 years and older that plans to visit certain Federal facilities or fly domestically will need a REAL ID or another acceptable form of identification. The standard access requirements remain the same for active duty and dependents, DoD civilian personnel, DoD retired personnel and dependents under the age of 18, vetted veterans in possession of a Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) and personnel that have been issued a Defense Biometric Identification Card (DBIDS) for access to one of our Northwest U.S. Navy installations.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
In order to be vetted with a background check and identify proofing by VCC personnel, you must bring valid/current government issued photo identification and current proof of citizenship. This applies to all individuals except for active duty service members and federal civilian employees, who do not require the same background checks. Despite having a CAC, these individuals are highly encouraged to bring any of the following proofs of citizenship (**while your Social Security card is helpful for identity proofing, it is NOT a valid proof of citizenship for NBK vetting purposes**):

	- State issued birth certificate: This must be an original or state certified copy. Personal photocopies, electronic versions, or hospital issued birth records are NOT accepted.

	- Enhanced state-issued driver's license only accepted from Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington. Real ID licenses are not accepted at this time.

	- U.S. Passport (book or card): The passport can NOT be expired.

	- Certification of Naturalization: This document (FS-550/560) must be an original; electronic or photocopies are not accepted.

	- Born-abroad Certificate: This document (FS-240) must be an original. Electronic or photocopies are not accepted.

	- Permanent Resident Card: This allows for background checks to be performed and access to the common area upon favorable results. However, Permanent Resident Cards do NOT qualify for proof of citizenship for restricted access badges. You will not be issued a PSNS badge under this type of citizenship proof; if you are a delivery driver with a PRC, you must also have proper documentation from the VCC before entering the common area.
