Summary

You will serve as a Recreation Fee Technician with National Park Service. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of technically challenging duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations.

Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

Perform a variety of technically challenging duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public.
Research or investigate fee transaction errors to determine the adequacy of existing fee systems and technologies.
Provide assistance to the higher-level supervisor or manager in the reconciliation of fee and/or donated funds.
Process arrivals and departures for reservations made through automated reservation systems. Create, modify, and/or cancel reservations; monitor inventory, quotas, and reservable versus first come, first-served availability.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Employee may need to drive between HALE Summit District and Kipahulu District.
Must have a current or obtain within 90 days a Fee SAC in order to collect fees.
You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 08/14/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level:

Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: performing duties associated with the
collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public. You must include hours per week worked

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties.

Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.
