This position has a basic individual occupational requirement (IOR). The IOR requires completion of education or a combination of education and experience sufficient to be comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a four year course of study with a major in the professional or scientific field.
Basic Requirement for Regional Economist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in economics that includes 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes utilizing cost benefit analyses to conduct economic feasibility of projects or other comparable economic investigation reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11) or equivalent.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
