Duties
The Women Veteran Program Manager (WVPM) Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrates leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of program aspects. Demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to impact the standard of care and safety of staff while caring for all women Veteran patients throughout the continuum of care. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Evaluates practice in an ongoing process, based on best evidence. Provides peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals. Contributes professional nursing perspective in discussions with the interdisciplinary team. Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes. Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers. Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care. Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture. Evaluates outcomes of evidence based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.
The WVPM strategically plans, ensures coordination of quality care, evaluates delivery of care, inclusive of timeliness, and outreaches to women Veterans needing services. The WVPM maintains oversite of the provision of comprehensive health care services to women Veterans; plans for the establishment of new specialty or primary programs, as well as the expansion of existing programs to meet the needs of current and future women Veterans seeking care to ensure equity of access, service and benefits. The Program Manager ensures access to the provision of state-of-the-art diagnostic, treatment, consultation and referral services within a comprehensive, integrated health care network. The WVPM ensures comprehensive coordination of health care services to meet the needs of women Veterans. The Program Manager provides continuous quality assessment to improve outcomes through data collection, analysis, and utilization of appropriate clinical indicators and monitoring activities to assure that the care provided is of the highest quality.
The WVPM ensures the availability for provisions of gender-specific and gynecological services, to include the following: counseling and treatment for sexual trauma; appropriate psychiatric services to meet the mental health needs of the woman Veteran, including access to services that may have gender variations such as endocrinology and oncology (breast and reproductive cancers) to eligible women Veterans. The WVPM collaborates and coordinates input from providers and pharmacy to ensure that appropriate pharmaceuticals are available. The Program Manager serves as the designated point of contact for medical center staff, women Veterans, and their families, as appropriate, who need the facilitation of health care and counseling services. To the extent possible, the WVPM strives to ensure that the Veteran is followed throughout the treatment process to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care. Serves as an advocate to women Veterans by identifying issues pertinent to their care and mobilizing resources for resolution.
The WVPM develops collaborative relationships internally and externally to facilitate outreach to identify and engage women Veterans. Serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving all aspects of care for women Veterans. Initiates and/or supports outreach activities through public speaking, health fairs, recognition ceremonies, Stand Downs, educational seminars, and Focus Groups where women Veterans can provide input and feedback to program staff and facility management. Participates in environment of care reviews and formal reviews for renovation and construction plans, to ensure it promotes comfort, privacy, and feelings of security. Serves as a liaison with women Veterans and the organization assisting with the identification and resolution of issues that affect women Veterans.
