Summary

You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the GROUND SAFETY BRANCH ofMARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER .

Duties

  • You will plan, develop, and administer the ground safety and occupational health program in support of Marine Corps Base Camp Butler (MCBB) Safety and Occupational Health Management System (SOHMS).
  • You will provide expert counsel and guidance to installation and assigned tenant organizations within the designated area of responsibility (AOR).
  • You will plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct scheduled and no notice inspections of tenant facilities, activities, buildings and contracting sites/areas.
  • You will coordinate, conduct, and administer Mishap, near-miss and SOH complaint investigations, hazard evaluations, consultation assistance, and unsafe/unhealthful working condition complaints

  • This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning, developing and administering ground safety and occupational health programs to include safety operations investigation, program effectiveness and hazardous material storage and handling.

The incumbent must meet all the training requirements unless waived by the hiring manager for a GS-0018-11/Journeyman Safety Specialist as outlined in NAVEDTRA 10076B which includes the following or equivalent courses:

- Hazardous Materials
- Electrical Safety
- Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General and Construction Industries
- Mishap Investigation

The incumbent may be assigned to other camps/locations as determined by management.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.M., if related

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
