Duties

  • Identifies security education and training requirements and conducts an annual review using Department of Defense and DISA policies. Uses matrixes to illustrate the measurable results of the training and educational modules.
  • Plans, develops, performs program evaluations, and provides program oversight for security program areas (i.e. Security Education, Training and Awareness).
  • Reviews and interprets legislation, Executive Orders, national and DISA policy issuances to determine applicability and required implementation by DISA's activities.
  • Advises managers on new developments and advances in security processes, methods, techniques, systems, and devices.
  • Provides advice and guidance to security specialists in supporting organizations on policy interpretation and application, resolution of problems and situations, and application of new techniques and systems.

  • This position requires the incumbent to travel away from their normal duty station to other locations within the continental United States and/or other locations outside the continental United States up to 25% of the time.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized experience is defined as developing a security education, training, and awareness plan; managing programs and procedures for the performance of security functions (e.g., Information Security, Operations Security, Controlled Unclassified Information and Industrial Security or similar security functions/programs.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. The incumbent may be required to physically report to their duty station in certain situations where non-essential employees are excused, such as during national emergencies, extreme weather situations, mission critical systems outages, and/or other scenarios as deemed appropriate at the highest levels of the organization's chain of command. As part of the Mission Essential designation, the incumbent may be placed in a 24/7 standby or recall status and be required to carry a mobile phone or other similar device to be directly recalled to duty from a recall roster. The incumbent may also be required to physically report to an alternate duty station during the activation of a Continuity of Operations (COOP) Plan.
  • This position requires the incumbent to travel away from their normal duty station to other locations within the continental US and/or other locations outside the continental US up to 25% of the time.
