Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment Victim Advocate to eligible installation level military, civilians, and dependents. To provide effective prevention and response programs addressing sexual assault/sexual harassment and other acts of interpersonal violence as well as other areas pertaining to human relations and interpersonal violence.

Duties

  • Serves as an installation Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment Victim Advocate.
  • Provides a wide range of essential support and advocacy services, liaison services, and care to victims of sexual assault/sexual harassment in accordance with generally accepted procedures and techniques.
  • Maintains support and follow-up contact with sexual assault/sexual harassment victims throughout the lifecycle of the case.
  • Responsible for providing initial response services such as access to emergency medical treatment (secondary prevention) and long-term support and care as needed (tertiary prevention).
  • Assists the installation SARC in the development and delivery of comprehensive sexual assault/sexual harassment training.
  • Facilitates or assists in the planning, scheduling, and delivery of sexual assault/sexual harassment response training for all installation personnel, leadership, deploying personnel, and other key stakeholders.
  • Represents the SAPR installation program both military and civilian agencies.
  • Liaison with local victim support agencies in order to gain support and cooperation in achieving support for victims of sexual assault/sexual harassment and to promote the enhancement of prevention and response services.

  • Employee will be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for TDYs or conferences relevant to sexual assault/sexual harassment.
  • This position may require drug testing and the candidate may be subject to passing a drug test upon selection.
  • Selectee is expected to be granted with and/or maintain the appropriate security clearance required for the position.
  • Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or an on-call status.
  • This position requires a high degree of discretion in relation to sensitive information of which the incumbent is aware.
  • Minimum of Tier 3 Background Check augmented by a State Criminal History Record Check (SCHRC) OR enrollment in Continuous Evaluation (CE) is required.
  • This position is a child care/youth services position and is subject to background checks in accordance with AFI 34-144, Child and Youth Programs as a condition of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification and recertification from the National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA), as specified in DoD and AF policy.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a POV/GOV. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for this position.
  • This position meets the professional exemption criteria for the Fair Labor Standards Act (5 CFR 551.207).

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of a wide range of social science and social work principles, concepts, and practices relating to victim advocacy and prevention of and response to sexual assault/sexual harassment.
2. Knowledge of laws, regulations, executive orders, issues, etc., to include the Air Force organizational structure, management policies, methods, and practices relating to sexual assault/sexual harassment victim advocacy, and related interpersonal violence.
3. Knowledge of social service delivery systems, methods, and theories relating to victim advocacy, sexual assault/sexual harassment.
4. Knowledge of training and education techniques to implement and deliver sexual assault/sexual harassment training.
5. Skill in applying tact and diplomacy during interactions with internal and external officials during difficult and sensitive circumstances and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizations and individuals to identify, establish, modify and provide victim support/assistance.
6. Ability to employ various methods and techniques typical of a sexual assault/sexual harassment victim advocate program, including crisis intervention, situational assessment, and analyzing the needs of the victim to provide support and/or assistance to them in the resolution of complex problems.
