Duties

  • You will conduct superstructure noise surveys.
  • You will assist in submarine drydocking operations as necessary.
  • You will repair submarine tanks.
  • You will cut, fit, assemble and install various structural assemblies, such as submarine sails.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For WG-08 - Your resume must demonstrate the ability to do from experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience working from blueprints and templates to lay out submarine structural parts (for example watertight closures, shell, deck and bulkhead plates, I-beams, channel bar and angle bar).
  • Experience installing and fits structural parts on submarines utilizing services of other trades.
  • Experience shaping metal pieces and assembles components to form required submarine parts.
  • Experience rolling, bending, flanging, cutting, and shaping plates, beams, and other heavy metal structural shapes using various shop machinery.
  • Experience locating positions of pieces by reference to water lines, center-lines, buttock lines, blueprints, etc.
  • Experience possessing knowledge of equipment, structures, materials, etc. associated with submarine shipfitting operations.
  • Experience maintaining the ability to interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, etc. to perform job duties.
  • Experience possessing the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment related to the shipfitter trade.
  • Experience removing and repairing or replacing damaged parts of ship structures.
  • Experience lining parts up for welding or riveting, installing temporary fasteners as required.
  • Experience opening and closing out all tanks for access at dry dock.
  • Experience overhauling submarine hatches and doors.
  • Experience settings parts in proper position, aligns, and adjusts using optical squares, jacks, turnbuckles, shoving saddles, clips, wedges, and hammers.
For WG-10 - Your resume must demonstrate the ability to do from experience in the private or public sector.

  • Experiences serving as a Shipfitter responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing various metal structural parts of submarines.
