There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Small Craft Operator without more than normal supervision. Independently perform full range of operating a gasoline or diesel propelled vessel less than 65 feet in length in areas with large amounts of water-borne traffic; explain and enforce safety regulations to all on-board personnel; maintain boat in good operating condition to include splicing, renewing, and caring for lines and fenders; and perform boat maintenance and recommend repairs and overhauls required. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Physical Effort: May be required to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Coordination of hands, eyes, body and legs is needed to work safely on wet and moving decks, especially when exposed to storms, high tides, or other extremes of weather.
- Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to injury while working around or inspecting moving machinery and parts, falls on wet decks, exposure to the extremes of weather and temperature conditions and to the general hazards of the sea.
Selective Placement Factor: Incumbent is required to possess (a minimum of) a U.S. Coast Guard Master/Inland 25G.T. License, with Towing Endorsement and Radar Observer Unlimited Certification in current active status, is required for this position. You must include a copy of your current, active, valid U.S. Coast Guard Master/Inland 25G.T. License, with Towing Endorsement and Radar Observer Unlimited Certification.
