Duties
As a SOCIAL WORKER, GS-0185-12, you will actively support the commander's leadership team in addressing the psychological health of their installation. Conduct assessments, routine and crisis evaluations, psycho-diagnostic assessments, provides short-term, evidence-based problem resolution strategies and services. Design, develop, coordinate, and implement prevention and community outreach and education programs. Responsible for marketing and marketing evaluation activities. Provide professional consultation, advice, education, and training to other military and non-military health care professionals, medical personnel, military commanders/senior leaders, wing personnel and their family members, and community agencies concerning primary and secondary prevention programs. Prepare agenda for meetings, compiles statistical data, and prepares a variety of recurring reports. Perform other duties as assigned.

- Possess a valid state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicles, for the state in which the applicant/employee lives or is principally employed, in accordance with Service specific Vehicle Operations Directives.
- Position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with local MDG policies. Must be obtained with 6 months of onboarding.
- For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
- Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility.
- This position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position.
- Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.

- Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular duty hours.

Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience, education, or training to perform professional social work principles and competencies, provide mental health diagnosis, treatment, research, consultation, and preventive programs for individuals, families, groups, and organizations in military communities; experience teaching, supervising, and directing clinical social work and related mental health programs.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months of specialized experience in clinical social work assignments; experience in professional social work that includes interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated, and assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate. Must understand labor relations, military operations, and the Military Health System, TRICARE and VA as it pertains to the military Psychological Health Program. Experience in social work practices, principles, and theories to develop and implement comprehensive primary and secondary prevention programs. Experience in the organization, management, and administration of programs and services to participate in program planning with local and community agencies. Experience in applying psychological and social work methods and theory in an outpatient clinical setting and providing consultation for health care providers and military leaders. Experience in applying professional community organization skills related to the formulation of needs assessments, development of prevention programs, and the marketing of programs.
Education
Education Requirement:
Master's Degree in Social Work (Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.)

Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
