Duties
As a Social Worker, GS-0185-11, you will coordinate with the National Guard community serving the military and non-military agencies to promote timely information exchange, coordinate collaborative prevention efforts, and establish and maintain an extensive array of resources, associations, and community partnerships. Participates in community activities to incorporate complex strategies that enhance community strengths, reduces broad-based community needs, implements community problem solving methods, and forges community connections to promote psychologically healthy lifestyles. Ensures that curriculums and community intervention initiatives for each prevention program are research-based and supported by the literature. Participates in relevant committee meetings in an effort to provide input and obtain information related to psychological health issues. Coordinates substantial findings and possible effects of outreach efforts with key leaders to ensure they remain current on issues related to the program. Liaison between the military and non military community agencies, including medical agencies, schools, shelters, child care, and family support centers providing access to services that can improve and/or sustain the psychological health of National Guardsmen and families. Represents the community outreach and prevention initiatives and programs professionally and appropriately. Coordinates findings and effects with leadership in an effective and timely manner.

- May require other mental health degrees and training as identified in AFI 44-119 (Medical Quality Operations) are acceptable.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use
- Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands
- Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility.
- Position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with local MDG policies. Must be obtained with 6 months of onboarding.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties
- Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular duty hours
- Must be a United States Citizen
Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Service "under the authority of Title 5, P.L. 114-328, Sections 932 and 1084 (FY17 NDAA)", and is open to current on-board (Tenure 1, 2 and 3) US Federal employees interested in helping the Department of the Army meet our mission requirements as a Social Worker.
PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.
Recruitment / Relocation: Incentive MAY be authorized. ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard.
FLNG BUS Code 8888: This position is "excluded" and ineligible for labor organization representation.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Must have a master's degree in social work by a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Note: A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 Must have 24 months of experience in clinical social work assignments. Completion of the Air Force Social Work Internship Program may be substituted for 12 months of the specialized experience requirement. This experience demonstrates particular competencies of knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of social work theories, principles, techniques, and resources. Must have specialized experience in professional social work that includes interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems, helping them work-out plans for improving the situation, providing assistance and services, referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated, and assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate. Except as stated above, no other substitution of education for specialized experience is allowed.
Note: A minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work is highly desired
TEMPORARY PROMOTION- For Title 5 selectees only: This is an obligated position (incumbent is on a military tour). If a permanent employee in Title 5 excepted civil service accepts this position, he/she will retain their permanent status AND return to their previous Title 5 position once the incumbent returns from military duty. If the military tour member, who has reemployment rights to this position, does not exercise his/her reemployment rights within 5 years, the selected individual may remain in this position without further competition.
INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT-For Current Title 32 selectees only: This is an obligated position (incumbent is on a military tour). If an on-board individual employed in Title 32 excepted civil service accepts this position, he/she will be converted to Title 5 and will receive an indefinite appointment (Tenure 3). If a Reduction-In-Force occurs and/or the military tour member exercises reemployment rights to this position, the indefinite appointee will have no reemployment rights to any other position and may be separated. If the military tour member, having reemployment rights to this position, does not exercise his/her rights within 5 years, this position may be converted to a permanent status without further competition.
