Duties
INTRODUCTION: This position is located within the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Semper Fit Division, Fitness Branch. The primary function of the position is to serve as a Strength and Conditioning Coach aboard Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. The program and activities serve a diverse population of active duty, retired military, family members, civilians, and other authorized customers to include the local national community in and around the installation.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Plans, organizes, and conducts a comprehensive physical fitness program that provides strength and conditioning programs for authorized patrons. Instructs individuals and groups in the proper implementation and maintenance of strength and conditioning training programs for aerobic fitness, muscular fitness, body composition, flexibility, and functional movement. Conducts the full range of physical fitness and rehabilitation assessments to include but not limited to: return to duty, injury prevention, screening and risk stratification, measurement and evaluation of an individual's aerobic capacity, body fat percentage, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, blood pressure, functional movement screens, and interpretation of assessment results.
Analyzes physical fitness testing results and data as compared to norms. Provides instruction and consultation on proper exercise techniques to individuals and group exercise plans. Instructs patrons in the proper use of all equipment for training and self-monitored progress by preparing written or verbal instructions for use of equipment, safety and well-being. Coordinates with and maintains Unit Physical Training (PT) schedules for command representatives to develop and implement physical fitness programming for Active Duty military personnel.
Provides PT services to varied population regarding age, medical status, and physical capabilities. Incumbent will work with populations deemed to be healthy and special populations consisting of; clients currently under a physician's care or those who have a medical referral. Under the guidance of a supervisor, be able to adapt physical fitness assessments and exercise programs based on these variables.
Coordinates a comprehensive Human Performance Program and provides instruction during High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) for Small Unit Leaders (HSUL) coaches course, classes, lifting workshops and competitions. Enhances force readiness by providing proper education and training on functional fitness, injury prevention, nutrition, proper execution of prescribed exercises and other related subjects.
Researching training programs that reflect industry best practices and compliance with Marine Corps policies and regulations, to include conferences and workshops on changing technology. Researches, and benchmarks emerging trends in the physical fitness industry and observes and reports on potential impacts on the Marine Corps. Reports on performance of programs to higher authority.
Supervise a team of Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the education and development of program design, exercise selection, movement patterns and competency. Work with an interdisciplinary team while cross-collaborating in the development of the Human Performance program. Maintains organization, cleanliness, and security of property of all HITT Centers, exercise equipment and performance lockers. Submit equipment and supplies purchase requests to supervisor as needed. May plan and conduct physical fitness special events. Registers students, collects fees, maintains attendance and appropriate accounting records. Ensure all safety measures are observed.
Supervises employees to include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees, recommending and completing personnel actions, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol abuse, and take appropriate action.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.

**NOTE (2) For applicants with Japanese permanent residency status; in accordance with USFJI 36-2611, para. 4.2.2.1., the individual is not entitled to acquire double residency status in Japan. SOFA status will be granted once you take an action to relinquish Japanese permanent residency.
