Duties
Serves as a Prevention Program Specialist at the CSACC/SACC of MCCS MCRD San Diego. Serves as the primary advisor for oversight and development of various substance abuse prevention training and education programs to include research of unit level operations; critical assessment and training evaluation processes and procedures, development and conduct of training curricula that provides specific and measurable learning objectives. Coordinates the implementation of evidenced-based prevention programs utilizing coalitions and Marine Corps Structure. Reviews and initiate use of social media outlets to reach and educate as many Marines as possible regarding the misuse and abuse of mood-altering substances.
Serves as subject matter expert for functional alcohol/substance abuse prevention training and programming. Independently conducts reviews and recommends approval or disapproval of program plans and materials; analyzes and develops proposals or provisions in terms of impact on program resources and requirements; develops new and revised operating procedures and standards to incorporate provisions that affect operating activities and requirements; conducts review of the administration and operation of the program and provides advice.
Independently ensures program operation to develop and revise guidelines and training materials and model operating procedures for use; implement program plans and proposals to meet program requirements and provide program support to improve and sustain the capabilities of commanders, Marines, and family members to prevent problems that detract from unit performance and readiness, and aid in coping successfully with the Marine Corps lifestyle.
Develops, coordinates, and submits alcohol/substance abuse prevention plans and policy recommendations to include plans and policies that reflect the relationship of chemical dependency such as: alcohol abuse, family problems (including family violence), suicide, sexual assault, combat operations stress, financial problems, and other problems that detract from unit performance and readiness.
Reviews, modifies, develops, and implements alcohol/substance abuse prevention and intervention educational training programs ensuring training and support capabilities are timely, relevant to commanders' needs, flexible, sustainable in execution, and thoroughly coordinated with Headquarters and field personnel.
Conducts presentations and delivers education and training using a variety of techniques and methods on alcohol/substance abuse prevention to the military community to include Substance Abuse Control Officers. Mentors field trainers and Conducts Train-The-Trainer sessions for potential trainers on how to present effective illicit drug use and alcohol abuse prevention trainings.
Reviews, develops, recommends, and monitors measures of effectiveness for alcohol/substance abuse prevention capabilities and training to ensure that Marine Corps training requirements are executed appropriately, and program needs are met.
Recommends and monitors budgeting for the assigned training program area. Prepares and provides reports on financial status of expenses, training attendance/usage, training plans offered and other related information as required.
Attends conferences and meetings. Prepares supporting documentation for presentations and proposals. Prepares correspondence, briefs, action documents, routing sheets, information papers, and slide presentations for use by management officials.
Provides on-going technical assistance to field units, and others as required, to improve and sustain alcohol/substance abuse prevention capabilities to include assistance with case management system software and collection procedures.
Plans a public relations campaign for alcohol/substance abuse efforts to include submitting written articles for publication such as newsletters, making personal contacts, and developing a plan of action with the public affairs officers, program managers, and other concerned agencies.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work week and work hours (to include weekends as necessary).
